(10 sep. 1934, Hibbing, Minn., EE.UU.–14 dic. 1985, Houston, Texas).

Beisbolista estadounidense. Cuando tenía diez años, su familia emigró de Minnesota a Dakota del Norte, donde el joven Maris sobresalió en las competencias escolares, y jugó béisbol en Fargo, durante el verano, en la Legión Americana. Jardinero y bateador zurdo, jugó en los Cleveland Indians, los New York Yankees y los St. Louis Cardinals. En 1961 conectó 61 home runs en una temporada, con lo cual quebró la vieja marca de Babe Ruth, de 60 home runs, y superó además por escaso margen a su compañero de equipo Mickey Mantle. El récord de Maris se mantuvo hasta 1998, cuando Mark McGwire logró 70 home runs y Sammy Sosa 66. See also Barry Bonds.
